Sounds like a fabulous trip! What a brilliant post - it had my jaw on the floor from snake-related horror AND my body shaking uncontrollably with laughter - a difficult combination to pull off simultaneously, but I feel I nailed it.
But fifteen eggs? WOW! I eat a LOT of eggs - but how on earth does could fifteen eggs count as a SNACK?!
Sounds like you had a wonderful trip with your family! Road trip convenience stores are great for weird food finds. We recently found little packs of Stroopwafels in the most unlikely of places while traveling to Seaside, Oregon.
As for young adults and their judgement - often it's best not to know what they're up to until after the fact. My son took up backcountry snowboarding as a teen, and now travels to some pretty remote places. His stories sometimes make me cringe. Once a mom, always a worrier.
Ooh, I should clarify (now that I'm fully awake). He rarely snowboards anymore, but now travels to remote places in countries like Ecuador, Chile, Cambodia, South Africa, etc. He's a botanist. New and different kinds of worry! Though with improved cell coverage, I can check to see if he or his girlfriend have been active on Instagram (whether they post or not). Once I figured that out that it helped a lot.
DO IT! We hadn't been since 2018, and it was so nice to be back. There were plenty of restaurants where we could eat outside and have our dog with us, and it was our first fun trip since the pandemic started. Seaside is our favorite of the coastal towns we've visited over the years.
I asked my 23-year-old if he knew about Rap Snacks and how long. He said, “At least since high school.” 🤦🏻♀️ And then he added that Boosie’s Louisiana Heat Cheese Puffs we’re the best ones--just in case you give in to temptation!
And now I have something else to ask him!🤣 I do know he puts all of them in a blender before cooking. I remember that part distinctly because he said, “I crack 15 eggs in the blender...” and I was so afraid he was going to tell me he drank it!
Squirrels I can take, snakes I cannot. I have had a few run-ins with snakes that I hope to never have again including almost stepping on one. I ran like h*ll. My heart was racing so hard. Sounds like everyone had a good time. Enjoyed the photos. The first one with the sunset makes a nice computer wallpaper.
Quite a collection of interesting stories in this edition... I don't know why this quote popped into my head just now - a quote I can't attribute to anyone in particular, but here it is “There is a cost to silence and a cost to using your voice and every day I wake up and decide which bill I’m going to pay.” I guess I'm happy you are paying the voice bill today...
As for Rap Snacks... I've never heard of them before, and quite frankly, I think I could live in blissful ignorance if I never hear about them again...I'm not against the rap thing - there's something else there that rubs me the wrong way.
Holly, I think we might be sisters from another mother, lol. You mentioned how much an earlier post of mine reminded you of your mother. Your posts check off the boxes of shared history for me as well. I love them. They make me feel at home. I'm a few years ahead of you, sinking into some of those awwww moments, "it all turned out okay." You will be here before you know it. In the meantime, enjoy your triumphs. You all deserve them. 💟

The idea of eating fifteen eggs at any meal makes me nauseous!

I love Stroopwafels a little too much, and it would serve me well to find them in little packs instead of the giants packs at Costco!
“...backcountry snowboarding...” Yeah, it was only when I started hearing these stories that I truly understood the meaning of “ignorance is bliss.”

Snowboarding, remote places in foreign countries--it’s all the same to a mom!🤣
So true!
My family has their reunion every year in Seaside. I haven't gone in a long time,. Might need to change that next summer!

I think it might be mine too; if only because of the memories it represents. Pacific City is a close second.
Nice area! We stayed there once, and drove through on another trip just to have lunch at the Pelican Brewery.
It sounds like a fun and...educational...time at the beach and even better since it was with family. Glad your son is doing well and hanging in there!
And, no, I've never heard of "Rap Snacks" and am not sorry for it :)
Hahahha! I hear some are pretty good.
I'd never heard of Rap Snacks before, either.
Gulf Shores is amazing. Snakes are whatever the polar opposite of that is.
“Water moccasin color.” Haha! Thank you for the scoop on the squirrel AND the snake! And happy to hear about your sweet weekend! :)
You know I had to channel my inner Anne and get to the bottom of things!
Ha!
Sounds like a fun trip.
Definitely some good stories for sure!
P.S. Rap Snacks are at our gas stations here in the South Suburbs of Illinois. I've been tempted...

😂 Thank you!
He must have a very big pan for 15 eggs! Wow!

Now that’s one way to efficiently scramble 15 eggs 😂

I grew up in wooded areas and had many run-ins with snakes. Funny that I can handle a snake better than a lizard!
Glad you like the photo! That was actually sunrise on our first morning. I think those were bands of clouds from Ian. Made for quite a show.
