This was so encouraging and moving! Signed up to get more! I listened to a number of Breakfast with an alcoholic recently when unable to sleep one night. Randall is amazing and the stories of other’s lives so moving also. Today is my son’s birthday - he would have been 41 . He died by suicide after struggle with alcohol and drugs in 5 months prior to death. He had a son who was 8 at the time , now 13 and heartbreaking circumstances with many broken systems have alienated him from me since his mother once again abandoned him in Aug 2021. I share custody with her but her mother now has taken control and I have only seen him 3 times since May. Chaos reigns in their lives at his expense, truancy, just moved again this weekend - further away from me. I could go on and on but won’t. My God message today came in text from dear freeing reminding me God is still in control, encouraging words from friends at church this am and coming home and reading email that I won a devotional prayer book. Your post added to the Blessings- Thank you

Melanie, after re-reading your comment, I wanted to share that today is also my birthday--47. I hope that fact shows you even more of God's care because I certainly don't think it's a coincidence. I can't imagine how difficult it was (and still is) to lose your son and to have your grandson torn away.

I hugged two of my son's rehab buddies today. I thought they might need a "mama hug" since both of their moms live so far away. I will pray for your grandson to get a "grandmother hug" from someone so that he will feel that love you have for him.

God is so good at providing what we need and I thank you for your kindness- I sent my grandson text with pictures of his Dad and him and that I love and miss him. I pray he responds at some point. Your son’s rehab buddies are blessed with your love😊❤️🙏

It must be a tough day--I'm very, very sorry about your son. Thank you for the kind words, it means so much to me that you're willing to share something that's so hard, so openly. I've read what Holly wrote four or five times and think it's just beautiful and I'm glad you like it, too.

It is so important to me to share things and I believe more people should be honest abot the painful and joyful experiences in life. I find confort in seeing others growing and healing. Profound losses are tough but I have gotten through them by the Grace of God, otherwise I would not still be here.

Thank you

I believe we share our own stories best when we read, listen, and pay attention to the stories of others!

I am so glad to hear you and your brother are doing well, and I love your blog. I have had situations in my life too where I have been in a valley of anxiety, and then God sends a friend, a timely sermon, or even a bird singing, and I feel a sense of peace. There are no “coincidences.”

Yes! While I spend each morning grounding myself in His Word, I cannot deny His presence throughout my day in small ways. And I agree--there are no "coincidences."

Spoiler alert: I'm on the mend, and he just told me he feels 500% better today than he has felt the last 2-3 days (and he emphasized that was no exaggeration!). Thanks for being here!
